Large randomised trials in adults with type 2 diabetes and in adults with obesity have reported reductions in body weight and improvements in several cardiovascular risk markers. One outcome trial found a lower incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events in participants with diabetes and established cardiovascular disease. Some processes utilize solvents to extract the fat but these can result in dangerous handling and potential residual issues. The final step in producing the product is typically spray drying, which involves atomizing the liquid protein in a hot air chamber resulting in rapid evaporation of the water and a fine powder falling to the bottom of the chamber for removal.
Due to the wide range of causes of camptocormia, there is no one treatment that suits all patients. In addition, there is no specific pharmacological treatment for primary BSS. The use of analgesic drugs depends entirely on the intensity of the back pain. Muscular-origin BSS can be alleviated by positive lifestyle changes, including physical activity, walking with a cane, a nutritious diet, and weight loss. Worsening of symptoms is possible but rare in occurrence. Treatment of the underlying cause of the disease can alleviate the condition in some individuals with secondary BSS. Other treatment options include drugs, injections of botulinum toxin, electroconvulsive therapy, deep brain stimulation, and surgical correction. Unfortunately, many of the elderly individuals affected by the BSS are not treated surgically due to age-related physical ailments and the long postoperative recovery period.

=== Mechanism of action === Melarsoprol is a prodrug, a complex of melarsen oxide (a melamine derivative of phenylarsonous acid) with dimercaprol (also known as British anti-Lewisite, or BAL). It is metabolized to melarsen oxide in the body, which then forms a toxic compound known as Mel T, through binding with trypanothione, (a spermidine-glutathione adduct that replaces glutathione in trypanosomes). While Mel T is a competitive inhibitor of trypanothione reductase, research suggests this is not sufficient to explain the rapid cell death of the trypanosome parasites. Some research has also discredited the theory that the disruption of glycolysis is essential to its mechanism of action. While the exact mechanism of action of melarsoprol has not been determined beyond the formation of Mel T, it has been suggested that this complex is implicated in several cytotoxic processes, including inhibition of DNA synthesis and increasing susceptibility to oxidative stress. This follows from the fact that trypanothione itself plays a role in the proper function of a variety of biochemical pathways.
Mescaline has been isolated from numerous cactus species, including Echinopsis (Trichocereus), Gymnocalycium, Lophophora, Opuntia, Stenocereus, and Turbinicarpus species, among others. It occurs at the highest known concentrations in Lophophora williamsii (peyote), where it is highly variable but makes up 0.1 to 0.255% fresh weight and 0.9 to 6.3% of dry weight. Levels of mescaline are much lower in other Lophophora species. The compound also occurs in relatively high concentrations in various Echinopsis species, for instance Echinopsis pachanoi (San Pedro cactus), ranging from 0.02 to 0.12% fresh weight and 0.331 to 2.0% dry weight in this species. Mescaline occurs in only small or trace amounts in most other cactus species in which it has been detected.

Sake kasu (酒粕) or sake lees are the pressed lees left from the production of sake (Japanese rice wine). It is a white paste used in cooking. Its taste is fruity and similar to sake. A by-product of Japanese sake production, it typically contains 8% alcohol, has high nutritional value, and might have health benefits. Sake kasu is used as a marinade for Japanese dishes based on fish, vegetables, and meat, and contributes an umami flavor to the dish. Sake kasu is also found in cosmetics and skincare products. Sake kasu is considered a part of the Japanese "no waste" culture since the waste of the sake production is used in various ways. Mirin, a type of sweet Japanese sake, can also produce kasu called mirin kasu. Similar to sake kasu, mirin kasu can also be used as a healthy food ingredient.
== Definition == The word Wagyu literally means "Japanese cattle" and does not denote a single breed. Before the modern breeds were established, Japan had regional populations of native cattle. After the Meiji Restoration in 1868, most were crossed for several generations with imported breeds, mainly British and continental European cattle. Two uncrossed native populations, the Mishima and Kuchinoshima cattle, survive and are considered to have remained free from European genetic influence. In modern Japanese breed and meat classifications, Wagyu usually means four breeds: the Japanese Black, Japanese Brown, Japanese Polled, and Japanese Shorthorn. Beginning in the late nineteenth century, these breeds developed from regional native cattle crossed with imported stock. The imported breeds used differed by breed and region. The resulting cattle were later established as distinct breeds through selection and closed breeding. After bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was first confirmed in Japan in 2001, the Beef Traceability Law was enacted in 2003. The system assigns each animal a ten-digit identification number and records its birth and movements; it applies to all cattle in Japan, not only Wagyu. This system is also used to verify the labeling requirements introduced for Wagyu beef in 2007. Under guidelines issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the designation Wagyu is recommended only for beef from cattle documented as one of the four breeds or specified crosses between them and confirmed as having been born and raised in Japan.

The onset of heroin's effects depends upon the route of administration. Smoking is the fastest route of drug administration, although intravenous injection results in a quicker rise in blood concentration. These are followed by suppository (anal or vaginal insertion), insufflation (snorting), and ingestion (swallowing). A 2002 study suggests that a fast onset of action increases the reinforcing effects of addictive drugs. Ingestion does not produce a rush as a forerunner to the high experienced with the use of heroin, which is most pronounced with intravenous use. While the onset of the rush induced by injection can occur in as little as a few seconds, the oral route of administration requires approximately half an hour before the high sets in. Thus, with both higher the dosage of heroin used and faster the route of administration used, the higher the potential risk for psychological dependence/addiction. Large doses of heroin can cause fatal respiratory depression and the drug has been used for the purposes of suicide and homicide. The serial killer Harold Shipman used diamorphine on his victims, and the subsequent Shipman Inquiry led to a tightening of the regulations surrounding the storage, prescribing and destruction of controlled drugs in the UK. Because significant tolerance to respiratory depression develops quickly with continued use and is lost just as quickly during withdrawal, it is often difficult to determine whether a heroin lethal overdose was accidental, suicide or homicide.
EMPA is employed in monazite geochronology especially for in-situ chemical dating (total-Pb dating). In the Republic of the Congo, also known as Congo-Léopoldville, newly independent from Belgium since June 1960, the Congo Crisis erupted on 5 July leading to the secession of the regions Katanga and South Kasai. CIA-backed President Joseph Kasa-Vubu ordered the dismissal of the democratically elected Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba and the Lumumba cabinet in September over massacres by the armed forces during the invasion of South Kasai and for involving Soviets in the country. Later the CIA-backed Colonel Mobutu Sese Seko quickly mobilized his forces to seize power through a military coup d'état, and worked with Western intelligence agencies to imprison Lumumba and hand him over to Katangan authorities who executed him by firing squad. In British Guiana, the leftist People's Progressive Party (PPP) candidate Cheddi Jagan won the position of chief minister in a colonially administered election in 1953 but was quickly forced to resign from power after Britain's suspension of the still-dependent nation's constitution. Embarrassed by the landslide electoral victory of Jagan's allegedly Marxist party, the British imprisoned the PPP's leadership and maneuvered the organization into a divisive rupture in 1955. Jagan again won the colonial elections in 1957 and 1961, despite Britain's shift to a reconsideration of its view of the left-wing Jagan as a Soviet-style communist at this time. The United States pressured the British to withhold Guyana's independence until an alternative to Jagan could be identified, supported, and brought into office.
